My aim is to make this the best hair loss reference site on the web. With over 2,000 hours of research and eight years of personally evaluating a variety of treatments the information you’ll find is intended to be comprehensive, accurate, and oftentimes, personally road tested for efficacy. The following sections are designed to give you a good feel for the type of information you’ll find on the site.
What the HTTT Site Does Do:
1. Focuses on the Leading Cause of Hair Loss (with a distinct bias towards the male of the species)
There are a number of different types of hair loss, each with their own distinct causes. This site concerns itself with what is by far the leading type of hair loss: Androgenetic Alopecia. Androgenetic Alopecia accounts for around 95% of all hair loss and is more commonly known as Male Pattern Baldness (MPB) or Female Pattern Baldness (FPB).
Although I do discuss these other types of hair loss briefly in the ‘Hair Loss Explained’ section, and will refer to them where suggested treatments may be applicable, MPB is the main game.
Why MPB? Basically because I’m male, and the correlation between being male and MPB is extremely high (ha, ha). Clearly, my research and treatments focused almost exclusively on this area. It’s that experience that I share on this site (although Female Pattern Baldness is often discussed due to similarlity of cause).
2. Focuses on Treatments for Hair Regrowth rather than Causes of Hair Loss
There is a certain base-level of information that you need concerning the nature and causes of hair loss in order to effectively evaluate the myriad treatments promising hair regrowth or restoration. That information is provided in in the Hair Loss Explained and Common Myths sections of the site in plain English. This information is treatment agnostic (i.e. independent of a consideration of any particular treatment), generally regarded by a broad range of medical practitioners and hair loss experts as the ‘accepted facts of hair loss’ and remains relatively static as a result.
That information will be referenced, and potentially challenged to a degree, in the discussion on potential treatments that is the focus of this site. In the rare case where further detail is required to evaluate the effectiveness of a treatment is will be included in the context of that discussion.
For those who have an interest in what lies behind the hair loss phenomenon beyond simply restoring their hair I have provided suggested links in the Hair Loss Explained and Common Myths sections to sites, books, etc. that I consider to provide the best explanation on the subject.
If you read nothing else on this site I recommend that you read these two sections and follow any of the links that take your fancy for further information. In the hair regrowth world knowledge is well and truly power – it WILL enable you to take control of your hair loss. Educate yourself sufficiently well in the basics and you won’t need anything else on this website or any other. For those that like a little more help than just the basics, you may want to stick around.
3. Provides an Easy to Understand “Rating System’ for Evaluated Treatments
Recommended / Not Recommended / Hope This Helps … Over to You
What the HTTT Site Does Not Do:
1. Claim that I’m a Medical Professional Whose Advice is Sacrosanct
I’ve personally suffered from MPB for eight years and am intimately familiar with the debilitating mental trickery that occurs inside ones skull as a result. Although I do not have a medical background, and you should not treat the information on this site as having that authority, I have been an exceptional hair loss guinea pig and can understand and distil anything written on the hair loss / regrowth subject into an easy-to-understand format – as well as create linkages between seemingly unrelated pieces of information to reach insightful conclusions. As I’ve said elsewhere on this site: ultimately you make the decision, but I hope the information presented assists you in making the one that’s right for you.
2. Address All Types of Hair Loss
This one pretty much follows from point one under the What the HTTT Site Does Do section. There are a number of other causes of hair loss: Androgenetic Alopecia, Telogen Effluvium, Alopecia Areata, Traction Alpoecia, Medication Related Hair Loss and Diet Related Hair Loss, for example. Whilst I would love to address all types of hair loss, my experience is limited to MPB. I do, however, provide links to trusted sources of information on other causes of hair loss in the Links section of the site.
3. Seek to Provide the Definitive Treatise on the Nature and Causes of Hair Loss
Whilst a good understanding of the nature and causes of hair loss is valuable, there are limits to how much you need to know and, in many cases, it is more valuable to address the nuances in the context of evaluating the treatment (read: manufacturers claims).
There are any number of sites out there that explain the subject in more detail than you might ever wish to know. For those with a particular interest that goes beyond simply regrowing their hair I’ve provided additonal links in the relevant sections.
4. Restrict Itself to Cinically Proven Treatment Methods
Whilst I have a distinct bias for clinically proven treatment methods (a number of which comprised my successful hair regrowth treatment plan) I provide my opinons on a range of hair loss treatments – from the completely whacky to those with millions of dollars of research behind them.
Why? The term clinically proven, although an exceptional indicator of efficacy, is not the only indicator. There are any number of reasons why a product or treatment method may lack the clinical data required for FDA approval (or the like). A notable one is the aforementioned million dollar outlay required to undertake the research and gain approval. Another might be the inability to patent the product or treatment – schemes, rules or methods (including medical treatment methods) cannot be patented, for example. Many of these products or treatment methods can be classified as natural. As you will see from other comments on this site I am a proponent of natural treatment methods for hair loss and am dedicated to giving these products a fair, but critical, hearing.
Good reading and I hope you find what you’re looking for within these pages.
